Cookies and Crushes

CassieBefore we were married, Cassie baked a batch of snickerdoodles, wrapped some of them in a small bag and tied it with a blue ribbon. She’s pretty in blue. We met at a friend’s house later that day, and when she drove up, her curly wheat-gold hair sparkled at me (the sun didn’t – overcast that day). She was prettier than stars. She handed the cookies to me, and I remember thinking:

She’s nice. I wish she liked me.

Yes, she did like me, but I was the sort of guy who figured girls bake, wrap, and ribbon cookies for anybody. Maybe this was her nice way of saying “I’ll give you cookies if you leave me alone.”

Toward a normal human being, her tactics might have conveyed the proper feelings. Too bad I wasn’t very normal then. But hey, I got more snickerdoodles later!

I hope you enjoyed this wee little story. Here’s a moral to end it with, just like all the great 80′s TV shows had:

We don’t do ribbons, but you can always add them yourself.

Also:

Cookies make people want to marry you.

And:

Cassie’s taken.

I hope the fella you’re chasing is brighter than I was.
